The shipyard in Novi Bečej was founded in 1959. Novi Bečej is a town in Serbia in the municipality of Novi Bečej in the Central Banat District. The name of the city probably derives from the name of the landed family “Bečei“ which had properties here. The first historical sources that mention the locality with this name in the 11th century refer to the dock, probably the scaffold, which existed here continuously until the end of the 20th century.
